Synthetic preservative. It is obtained industrially by reacting Sodium Hydroxide with Benzoic Acid. It is used to prevent yeast, bacteria and some types of fungi. In this additive the concentration is much higher than that contained in some naturally occurring vegetables such as cloves, cinnamon stick, plums, blueberries and other red fruits.
